Bard PowerPort lawsuit: implanted port injury claims
Lawsuits claim that Bard implanted ports, used to deliver chemotherapy and other medicines, can fracture, migrate or cause infections and blood clots. Federal cases are grouped in Arizona, where bellwether trials began in 2026 with mixed results.

What is alleged
Plaintiffs allege design and manufacturing defects and failure to warn, including claims that the catheter material can degrade, crack or harbor bacteria. Bard and its parent company, Becton Dickinson, deny the claims.
The federal MDL
MDL 3081 is before Judge David G. Campbell in the District of Arizona. The federal panel reported 4,140 pending cases as of October 1, 2026, and the number has been growing.

An infection case tried in 2026 ended mostly in Bard’s favor. A catheter fracture case later in 2026 produced a reported $40 million verdict for the plaintiff. More bellwether trials are scheduled into 2027, and no global settlement has been announced.
Records that matter
The port model and implant date, imaging showing fracture or migration, records of infection or clotting and their treatment, and records of any removal surgery.
Deadlines
Each state sets its own filing deadline, and the clock often starts when you knew or should have known about the injury and its possible cause. Joining an MDL does not pause your state’s deadline, so ask a lawyer promptly if you are considering a claim.
Talking to a lawyer
Mass tort lawyers usually work on contingency, meaning they are paid a percentage of any recovery. Ask how the fee is calculated, which costs you could owe, whether your case would be filed in the MDL or in state court, and who will handle it day to day. SettlementLift is not a law firm and does not take or refer these cases.
