Fatal crash data

Our statistical research uses NHTSA Fatality Analysis Reporting System annual files for 2020–2024. Fatal crashes, fatalities and involved vehicles are separate measures. Truck involvement does not establish fault, and FARS does not measure all nonfatal crashes.

Population and local measures

Census Vintage 2025 population estimates are retained separately from crash data. Geographic boundaries and data vintages must be reconciled before rate comparisons. State reports use their own reporting definitions.

Legal and funding information

Applicability review remains in progress. Operational partner notes are not treated as law. SettlementLift accepts inquiries for review and follow-up by our team or a service partner; it does not make or approve funding offers.

Editorial review

Source links, dates and limitations accompany the resources; case-specific legal or financial questions require individual advice. Our methodology and accident-statistics pages explain the current statistical limitations.
