Depo-Provera lawsuit: meningioma claims and settlement status

Lawsuits claim the birth-control injection Depo-Provera increases the risk of meningioma, a usually noncancerous tumor of the membranes around the brain or spinal cord. Federal cases are grouped in Florida, and a settlement was reported in 2026, but its terms have not been made public.

What is alleged

Plaintiffs allege Pfizer and related companies knew or should have known about a link between long-term use of medroxyprogesterone acetate and meningioma and did not warn U.S. users or doctors in time.

The federal MDL

MDL 3140 is before Judge M. Casey Rodgers in the Northern District of Florida. The federal panel reported 6,412 pending cases as of October 1, 2026.

Label change

The U.S. label added a meningioma warning in December 2025. A warning added after a person’s injections does not by itself decide whether an earlier warning was required; that is one of the questions in the litigation.

Settlement status

In mid-2026 the parties reported a settlement in principle, and the bellwether trial schedule was set aside. Financial terms have not been made public. Reported program deadlines apply to represented claimants, so ask your lawyer which deadlines apply to you.

Records that matter

Records of each injection (dates and number of shots), the meningioma diagnosis and imaging, and any surgery or treatment. Many claims depend on how long the injections were used.

Deadlines

Each state sets its own filing deadline, and the clock often starts when you knew or should have known about the injury and its possible cause. Joining an MDL does not pause your state’s deadline, so ask a lawyer promptly if you are considering a claim.

Talking to a lawyer

Mass tort lawyers usually work on contingency, meaning they are paid a percentage of any recovery. Ask how the fee is calculated, which costs you could owe, whether your case would be filed in the MDL or in state court, and who will handle it day to day. SettlementLift is not a law firm and does not take or refer these cases.
