What affects the value of a car accident claim?
A useful claim review starts with documented losses, responsibility and applicable coverage. A crash description or medical-bill total alone cannot produce a reliable settlement figure. Prepare the records and questions below for a case-specific consultation.

Organize losses with supporting records
California Courts’ personal-injury guide identifies medical expenses, missed earnings, ongoing treatment and other injury-related harm as examples of losses that may be considered. It also explains the importance of evidence. These examples are a starting point for organizing a consultation; the losses recoverable in an individual case depend on the applicable law and proof.
California Courts: Personal injury cases ↗Separate paid amounts, bills and estimates
For each expense, record the date, provider or business, amount billed, amount paid, remaining balance and the document supporting it. Keep a repair estimate separate from a paid invoice. Mark future costs as estimates and identify who supplied them. This makes it easier for an attorney to identify missing information and avoid counting the same expense twice.
Ask how responsibility and coverage affect the assessment
Ask what evidence supports responsibility, what facts remain disputed, which parties and policies are being reviewed, and which issues could change the evaluation. Preserve the original report, photos, witness details and correspondence already available to you. An insurer’s offer and your documented expenses answer different questions; ask how each part of the offer was assessed.
Discuss the amount you would actually receive
Ask for a written explanation of attorney fees, case expenses, outstanding bills and any repayment claims or funding obligations that would be addressed from a settlement. Clarify which figures are final and which remain estimates. A gross settlement figure is not necessarily the amount available for your household expenses.
Use questions instead of an unsupported calculator
Ask your attorney what additional records would make the assessment more reliable, which uncertainties matter most and when an updated review would be useful. Another person’s result cannot account for your evidence, coverage or circumstances. SettlementLift does not calculate a case value or promise a settlement amount.
