Start with the investigating agency
For an individual report, start with the law-enforcement agency that investigated. Keep its report reference and ask how eligible parties can request a copy. The Highway Safety statistics portal describes aggregate data and includes a records-request link; a filtered statistical result is not your individual crash report.

Insurance minimums, explained
Insurance language can feel like another problem to solve. Here is the starting point for a standard passenger-auto policy in Utah.
Bodily injury · one person
$30,000The injury liability limit for a single injured person.
Bodily injury · one accident
$65,000The injury liability limit shared across injured people in one crash.
Property damage · one accident
$25,000For damage to other people’s vehicles or property.
These are minimum coverage requirements, not an estimate of your settlement. A policy may have higher limits. Special programs, commercial vehicles and the policy’s effective date can change the requirements.
What about my medical bills?
Utah PIP provides at least $3,000 in medical benefits per person. Ask your own insurer about opening a PIP claim.
If the other driver has too little insurance
Check your own UM/UIM coverage if the at-fault driver’s liability coverage may not meet your losses.
How long do I have to file?
The general personal-injury filing period is 4 years. The claim type, accrual date and exceptions matter; government claims can require earlier notice. Have an attorney confirm your deadline.

Questions you may have
Does the minimum limit tell me what my case is worth?
No. It describes a coverage requirement. Injuries, responsibility, available policies and other facts affect what may be recoverable. Multiple injured people may share an accident limit.
Do I have to wait for a settlement to ask about medical benefits?
Your own policy may have benefits available before a liability claim settles. Ask your insurer which coverage applies, what records it needs and when you must give notice.
Can I request cash while my case is pending?
You can tell us about your case and the amount you need. Pre-settlement funding is separate from an insurance payment. Review any written offer’s costs, repayment terms and effect on the money you keep from your case.
What should I have ready?
Your crash date, insurance information, any claim number and your attorney’s contact details are useful starting points. If you have an attorney, including their information can reduce follow-up during review.
Crash statistics
2024 · NHTSA FARS first annual release
What these figures mean
Our derived NHTSA FARS baseline records 251 fatal crashes and 277 people killed in Utah during 2024. Of those crashes, 42 involved a large truck. The truck figure is a subset of fatal crashes, not an additional total. These figures use the first annual release dated April 1, 2026; they do not count all injury or property-damage crashes.

Utah’s source page now directs users to one Crash Data Portal and says previous individual dashboards were merged. It explains date, severity and location filters, plus separate crash, person and vehicle views. Check the active filters and whether a figure counts crashes, people or vehicles.

Salt Lake City
Traffic Calming Toolkit
Salt Lake City’s Traffic Calming Toolkit describes truck restrictions as one possible traffic-management measure. A toolkit describes available measures; it does not establish that a particular restriction was installed on your street. Preserve the exact location and any existing photographs of signs, turns and street layout, and ask for the applicable installation or traffic-control record if a specific restriction is relevant.

Look for the project and traffic-signal records
Provo Engineering coordinates city traffic systems, capital projects and infrastructure construction permits. If a collision involved a truck turning through roadwork or a signal-controlled intersection, record the direction and date. Your attorney can ask which signal, construction or access records are relevant; a future transportation-plan proposal does not show the layout on the crash date.
Provo: City Engineering Division ↗West Valley City
Separate a transportation plan from conditions on the day
West Valley City’s published transportation chapter provides context for its street network and truck-oriented businesses. A general plan describes transportation policy and future needs, not the details of a particular crash. For a delivery or industrial-access collision, save the actual driveway, travel direction and company identifiers so your attorney can seek the appropriate site and vehicle records.
West Valley City: Transportation plan ↗Ogden
Curb access can matter in a delivery-truck collision
Ogden’s official transportation links include its city parking map. For a collision involving a delivery truck near the curb, preserve existing photographs showing loading activity, parked vehicles and the street signs. Ask about the parking or loading arrangement on the relevant date; a parking map does not establish a truck route or prove a violation.
Ogden: Parking and transportation resources ↗Get ready for your next conversation
Keep the report reference, insurance correspondence, expense records and questions together. Ask an attorney which filing periods and other deadlines apply to the particular parties and claim. A report request, insurance conversation or SettlementLift inquiry does not stop a deadline. For a truck crash, ask about the vehicle identifiers, carrier and any records that may need prompt preservation.
Need cash while your case is pending?
A pre-settlement cash advance may help with expenses while a case is pending. Start by telling us about your case and the amount you have in mind. Before accepting an offer, compare its written costs and repayment terms with your other options.
